Grant Application Collaboration
Sound methodology, built in before you submit.
Strong clinical ideas require more than scientific merit to secure funding. Successful grant applications depend on a well-defined study design, robust methodology, appropriate statistical considerations, and a clear demonstration of potential impact and value.
SCRI's Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) and Biostatistics teams collaborate with clinical investigators from the earliest stages of proposal development. By combining clinical expertise with methodological, statistical, epidemiological, and health economic insights, we help transform research questions into scientifically rigorous, feasible, and competitive grant applications that are well positioned for funding success.
How we can support your proposal
Framing the research question and study design
Refining research questions that can realistically be answered within the scope of the award and selecting an appropriate design, from clinical trials of any phase through to epidemiology, real world evidence, health services and health economic studies.
Sample size determination
Calculation the number based on stated assumptions and justification, such as target or meaningful effect size and variability, that reviewers expect to see.
Randomisation
For randomized clinical trials, settling the randomisation scheme and architectural elements such as blinding and advanced elements like stratification, minimisation and adaptation.
Statistical analysis plan
An outline analysis plan proportionate to the proposal stage, so that the methods section states clearly how the primary and secondary questions will be answered, and if interim analysis for data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) will be performed.
Health economic evaluation
Designing the economic component alongside the clinical study: choice of evaluation (cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, budget impact), perspective, time horizon, outcome measures, health resource utilisation and associated costs, and data sources.
Budget review
Costing our contribution into the application, and checking the budget for gaps that would leave the work under-resourced once the award starts.
Our approach

As part of SCRI's strategic support for research development, we provide methodological input and grant application support at no cost during the proposal stage. Where substantive contributions are made, our involvement is formalized through collaboration, with our team member named as a co-investigator or collaborator on the proposal and, subsequently, the project.
Why SCRI
Biostatistics
Our Biostatistics team support the entire clinical research lifecycle, from rigorous study design to analysis, reporting, and knowledge translation. Our team has a breadth of experience including supporting multi-national cluster randomised trial for community-based intervention in hypertension, adaptive vaccine trial in infectious diseases, large multi-centre late phase oncology trials, medical device intervention trial in diabetes, and ophthalmology therapeutic trials in paediatrics. Our statisticians are regularly invited to review grant applications, journal manuscripts and conference abstracts. The team has supported more than 150 studies, 150 grant proposals, and 200 research papers.
Health Economics and Outcomes Research
Our HEOR team fat SCRI is a multidisciplinary group with expertise in health economics, epidemiology, outcomes research, real-world evidence, and evidence synthesis. We were among the early adopters in Singapore of integrating health economic evaluation into clinical research and grant-funded studies. Drawing on backgrounds in medicine, public health, epidemiology, and quantitative sciences, our team works closely with investigators to translate healthcare challenges into robust and practical research solutions. Our experience spans a broad range of therapeutic areas and research methodologies, including primary studies, real-world evidence generation, health economic evaluation, and health technology assessment. Leveraging data from hospitals, disease registries, and national administrative databases, we generate evidence that supports better healthcare decisions and improved patient outcomes.
Engaging us
You can contact us via email: contact@scri.cris.sg
We recommend contacting us as early as possible when formulating the research question. The design decisions we can help most with are made at the beginning.
For a first discussion, it helps to have your research question, the funding call and its deadline, and any preliminary data or prior work you intend to build on.
