Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
What the whole body of evidence supports, established systematically rather than from a single study.
Our review work supports the practice of evidence-based medicine by developing and teaching review methodology, and by conducting reviews to a standard that can withstand scrutiny. Our staff are well-versed in both clinical and research methodology, which is what makes a review clinically relevant as well as methodologically sound.
Our capabilities
Development of systematic methodology to promote evidence-based medicine
Synthesis of quantitative evidence to evaluate both efficacy and cost-effectiveness
Use of systematic reviews to identify knowledge gaps, assess health services, and inform decision-making
Support the methodological work to produce high-quality systematic reviews for the Cochrane Collaboration
How we support your review
We can take on the methodological work of a review and advise on the stages the clinical team runs:
Search strategy and literature searching: Developing the search strategy and running the search across the relevant databases, including PubMed, Embase, trial registers and databases of systematic reviews, updating searches as the review progresses and obtaining full-text articles.
Screening, study selection, and data extraction: We advise on the eligibility criteria, on how title, abstract and full-text screening should be run, and on the design of the extraction form. The clinical team carries out these stages.
Risk of bias assessment: Formal assessment of the included studies.
Quantitative synthesis: Meta-analysis and network meta-analysis of the extracted data.
