Dr. Batzaya Tsognemekh is an interventional cardiologist recognized for his contributions to the development of modern cardiovascular care in Mongolia. After graduating from medical school in 2007, he completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS). He then pursued subspecialty training in interventional cardiology at the Third State Central Hospital, where he later served as an attending physician.
In 2020, Dr. Tsognemekh was appointed Chief of the Coronary Care Unit at the National Cardiovascular Center of the Third State Central Hospital, one of its core clinical departments. He has also completed advanced interventional cardiology training in leading cardiovascular centers in South Korea and Taiwan, strengthening his expertise in contemporary PCI techniques.
Dr. Tsognemekh has been actively involved in the adoption and refinement of complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures in Mongolia, including treatment of left main bifurcation disease, chronic total occlusion, and complex high-risk indicated patients (CHIP). Alongside his clinical duties, he is committed to training the next generation of interventional cardiologists, providing structured mentorship each year.
Beyond tertiary care settings, he has worked to improve cardiovascular services in rural regions of Mongolia by offering consultation and supporting the establishment and growth of regional PCI programs.
As a board member of the Mongolian Society of Interventional Cardiologists, Dr. Tsognemekh contributed to the development of the national Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) management guidelines for countrywide implementation. He is currently engaged, together with his team, in initiating the National PCI Registry, aimed at improving quality monitoring and advancing evidence-based cardiovascular care in Mongolia.
