A/Prof Edwin Chan is a clinical epidemiologist with extensive expertise in clinical research and evidence synthesis. He teaches research literature critical appraisal skills to medical students (Duke -NUS Medical School) and mentors students in clinical research (MCI programme, NUS). He has taught many research methodology courses on clinical trials, biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical practice guidelines (CPG) development, meta-analysis & evidence-based medicine (EBM). His interests are in the teaching of critical appraisal skills, epidemiology, health technology assessment and evidence synthesis.
He leads the scientific team of biostatisticians and epidemiologists In the Singapore Clinical Research Institute in supporting clinical investigators produce evidence reviews, develop research protocols for grants and data analyses of completed studies. Under SCRI Academy he has organised and developed many clinical research methods workshops for academic researchers & pharma medical affairs teams. As Director of Cochrane Singapore, he promotes the mission of the Cochrane Collaboration and has conducted EBM and systematic review training for researchers in Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan.
His other external roles include being a committee member of an IRB (NHG DSRB), a clinician scientist training committee (NHG CSPP), an evidence-based medicine training committee (NUH), a local grant review panel (NMRC NIG) and the steering committee of Guidelines International Network (Asia chapter).
