A/Prof Edwin Chan
Senior Advisor, Singapore Clinical Research Institute (SCRI)
A/Prof Edwin Chan is a clinical epidemiologist with extensive expertise in clinical research and evidence synthesis. He teaches research literature critical appraisal skills to students at Duke-NUS Medical School and is also a mentor for the Master of Clinical Investigation programme at the National University of Singapore.
He has taught many research methodology courses on clinical trials, biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical practice guidelines development, meta-analysis & evidence-based medicine (EBM). His research interests include the teaching of critical appraisal skills, epidemiology, health technology assessment and evidence synthesis.
In his previous role as Chief Scientific Officer at the Singapore Clinical Research Institute (SCRI), A/Prof Edwin Chan has led the scientific team of biostatisticians and epidemiologists in supporting clinical investigators to produce evidence reviews, develop research protocols for grants and data analyses of completed studies. Under SCRI Academy, he has organised and developed numerous clinical research methods workshops for academic researchers and pharmaceutical medical affairs teams. A/Prof Chan continues to serve as Senior Advisor for SCRI.
As Director of Cochrane Singapore, he promotes the mission of the Cochrane Collaboration and has conducted EBM and systematic review training for researchers in Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan.
His other external roles include serving as a committee member of the NHG Health Domain Specific Review Board (DSRB), the NHG Health-LKCMedicine Clinician Scientist Preparatory Programme (CSPP), an evidence-based medicine training committee at the National University Hospital, grant review panel for the National Medical Research Council – New Investigator Grant (NMRC NIG) and the steering committee of the Guidelines International Network (Asia chapter).
