Profile
Prof. Sharmin Jahan passed MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 2000 with distinction. Later she completed her fellowship in Internal Medicine from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in 2008. She obtained MD in Endocrinology and Metabolism and received Prime Minister Gold Medal in 2014 for securing the highest marks among all the subjects in the faculty of Medicine. At present she is working as a Professor in the Dept of Endocrinology, BSMMU.BSMMU is the largest medical university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2023 she received the BSMMU Vice-chancellor Gold Medal for the best researcher category for teachers. She has presented various original works and endocrine-related papers in conferences at home and abroad. She has published 70 original articles in international journals and a sizable number in national papers. Currently she is in the final phase of her Ph.D. program on Endocrine hypertension at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia under the supervision of Prof. Peter Fuller and Assoc. Prof Jun Yang. She is the principal investigator of projects that aim at determining the prevalence of primary aldosteronism (PA) and to find out a cost-effective and easy diagnostic pathway to PA as well as outcome study of PA and low renin HTN. She is a co-investigator in the studies conducted over Gestational DM and DM in the young (< 30 years) in BSMMU. She also has an interest in other areas of research like Pituitary disorders especially Cushing disease, growth, and pubertal disorders. In 2018 she had an observer ship training at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA under Prof. William F. Young, Chair, division of Endocrinology with emphasis on Pituitary, Adrenal, and gonadal disorder as well as endocrine HTN.
