Prof Li is the General President of Xia Men Eye Center of Xia Men Medical College. She was the Chair and Professor for the Eye Centre and Eye Institute of Peking University People's Hospital. She was President of the Chinese Ophthalmology Society (COS) and Past President of the Chinese Ocular Fundus Diseases Society (Vitreo-Retina Society).

She was the leading PI of a research project 973 for AMD pathogenesis of Chinese population and published papers on a new gene UBE 3D. She published more than 200 papers and edited 7 books.
