Dr. Vanessa de Villa is a consultant in the Department of Surgery of The Medical City and Director of the Center for Liver Disease Management and Transplantation in the same institution.

She obtained her degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine.  Thereafter she did residency training in general surgery and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarre, Spain. Pursuing her interest in liver surgery, she then did fellowship training in liver surgery and liver transplantation at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. She served as Clinical Associate Professor in the University of the Philippines before moving to Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong where she worked with the HBP and Liver Transplantation Division of the Department of Surgery of the University of Hong Kong for two years. In 2008 she went back to the Philippines to establish a local liver transplant program. Her clinical and research interests include liver cancer, end-stage liver disease, adult and pediatric liver transplantation and she has published over 70 scientific journal articles. She is a fellow of the Philippine College of Surgeons, a founding member of the Philippine Society for Transplant Surgeons, founding member and Treasurer of the Philippine Association of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeons and Chair of the Philippine Board of Transplant Surgery.
