Dr Fariza is the National Head of Ophthalmology Services in Malaysia. She is Head of Department at the Shah Alam Hospital, Selangor, as well as its Head of Unit for Retina and Uveitis Services. Dr Fariza played a key role in setting up a tertiary centre for the very first Medical Retina service in the Ministry of Health Malaysia – she established a formal training structure in medical retina diseases and transformed the unit into the largest Medical Retina centre in Malaysia.

Dr Fariza completed her fellowship in medical retina and uveitis disease at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, University College of London. She is actively involved with research and publications in relation to retina disease and has presented at many local, national, and international ophthalmic conferences. Her areas of expertise include degenerative macular disease such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy as well as Uveitis. She is a member of many ad-hoc and national ophthalmic committees, and sits on many consultative panels in the Ministry of Health Malaysia, advising on policies related to ophthalmology
