Dr James Fung is a Consultant and Honorary Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine; and at the Division of Liver Transplantation, Department of Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong.

Dr Fung received his primary medical degree and subsequently his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He completed his specialist training at Auckland City Hospital and Middlemore Hospital. With a special interest in transplant hepatology, he spent one year training at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit.

Dr Fung moved to Hong Kong in 2005, and now serves as the only dedicated transplant hepatologist in the region. He is actively affiliated with a number of professional bodies and is a current serving council member of the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Liver Disease.

His authorship includes over 100 research articles and book chapters, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. He is a regular speaker at both local and international meetings. His current research interests include disease recurrence in liver transplantation, viral hepatitis, and liver fibrosis.
