Prof Yang is currently the Director of Ophthalmology, National Taiwan University Hospital, and professor of ophthalmology, National Taiwan University. 

He is the former president of Taiwan Retina Society. His research interests mainly focus on clinical studies on complicated retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and vitreo-retinal interface disorders. He was the first to use lens capsule to treat persistent macular hole after failed primary procedures, and published high success rate of macular hole closure in macular hole with retinal detachment in high myopia using various novel techniques.
