How does SCRI develop Scientific Leadership?

Developing and strengthening our intellectual leadership is key to our mission. Engaging a team of Biostatisticians and Epidemiologists, this is accomplished by various means:

  • Scientific consultations instituted for the purpose of catering to general research inquiries, providing advice on study design and analysis approaches, discussing initial exploratory research ideas and offering guidance in drafting grants, manuscripts and reports.
  • Scientific collaborations with investigators to bring together the required expertise to achieve the goals of the clinical research.
  • Scientific communication.  Facilitating scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals is paramount to accomplishing our mission. We achieve this by providing medical writing advice and expertise.
  • Scientific advisors retained by SCRI who are recognized experts in their fields.  Areas of expertise include Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Health Services Research, Biostatistics and Epidemiology.  This select group of about 20 advisors can be called upon for consultation regarding study protocols and grant applications.

What are consultation clinics?

Research consultation clinics conducted by SCRI’s Biostatisticians and Epidemiologists cater to  general research queries.  We provide researchers the opportunity to discuss initial exploratory research ideas and seek advice on study design, analysis approaches, and guidance for publication or report drafting.

Do consultation clinics include data analysis for research projects?

No, the clinics are solely for the purpose of providing expert advice or consultation on generic research questions. Requests for services or collaborations related to the conduct of studies, (e.g., project management, data management and analysis) can be solicited via SCRI’s collaboration request procedure.

Does SCRI provide assistance in the design and conduct of animal studies?

SCRI focuses on human clinical research and currently does not accept animal studies. However, generic advice on study design and methodology can still be provided via the SCRI Consultation Clinics.

Does SCRI require co-authorship in scientific publications?

Yes, SCRI would require co-authorship in scientific publications consistent with policy and authorship criteria set out by peer-reviewed journals.
