What is a Clinical Research Network (CRN) ?
A CRN is an infrastructure developed to support the conduct of multi-site clinical trials and related multi-site clinical research studies. Clinical research networks are developed to:
- create an efficient, effective, multisite clinical research network for selected key disease or therapeutic areas,
- identify and study the most critically important and clinically relevant research / questions,
- facilitate and enhance collaborations between academia, industry and government to achieve one or more of the above major aims,
- provide a platform and arena to facilitate the career development of clinical investigators, scientists and other personnel involved in clinical research.
What role does SCRI play in CRNs?
SCRI places itself as the initiator, facilitator, integrator and provider of necessary infrastructure and support for a CRN.
SCRI provides secretariat support (various business functions), communications amongst all necessary members and site personal, a central contact for sponsors who want to access the CRN for contracts and IP agreements, and training tools and procedures for effective and efficient study management. SCRI also ensures quality control with regular site visits.
How are CRN’s typically managed?
The management of each CRN is typically undertaken by the CRN Executive Committee which will provide direction and be the decision-maker on all major issues pertaining to the acceptance, management, budgeting, conduct, authorship and publication of trials or other CRN studies.
The Executive Committee Chair and Co-Chair will be recognized disease experts in Singapore with established publication records and expertise in the conduct of multi-site trials which were sponsored by industry or receiving grants from government bodies or other funding sources.
Who are the members of the CRN?
The membership of a CRN will be defined by its Executive Committee on the basis of participation, which will be reviewed annually. The participation refers mainly to contribution of patients but may also include contributions to study protocol and other inputs to the study / network.
